In the March of 2011, the initiation group of Klaipėdos Senamiesčio Rotary was presented a project idea by Klaipėdos vision development center about a summer camp for blind or visually impaired children and their families. There was a financial shortage for the completion of this project, so on May of the same year the club organized a project called “Dinner in the Dark”, which was created to support the upcoming camp. After “Dinner in the Dark” the needed amount of funds was raised and the actual camp “The Miracle of Cognition” began only a couple months later in the summer time. Since then the camp became a foundational project for Klaipėdos Senamiesčio Rotary club, which happens annually in various locations of the sea coast and gathers, on an average about 70-80 participants from Lithuania and foreign countries.
“The Miracle of Cognition”- inspired a rising initiation from the club in 2017- the project “From the Dark to Light”. The result of this project is a CD with the artistic creations of blind or visually impaired children.
Right from the start the club keeps close connections with the Lithuanian Rotary community and gladly takes part in their organized projects. During the club’s existing years the Klaipėdos Senamiesčio Rotary club collaborates with Klaipėdos vision development center, charity and support foundation “Food Bank”, Klaipėdos tuberculosis dispenser (together with Klaipėdos Senamiesčio Rotaract club), annually participates in a cleaning project of Dangės river (together with Klaipėdos Rotary club Concordia 1826), contributes to the project “Little Yellow Buses” organized by RK “Aditė” club, participated in the movement “Darom”, “Run of Hope” and other initiatives, which bring positive outcomes for the society.
