"The Miracle of Cognition" annual event for blind and visually impaired children
"The Miracle of Cognition 2022" – this year it was the largest camp for children with eyesight impairments from Lithuania, Estonia, Poland and Ukraine, since the beginning of the project.
For the 11th time, children with eyesight impairments were delighted to join "The Miracle of Cognition 2022" Camp that was organized and managed by Klaipeda Senamiesčio Rotary Club in cooperation with Klaipeda Eyesight Developmental Center and other helpers, supporters, and friends.
Biggest number ever - 88 children, and all of them driven by enthusiasm and motivation gathered at the Camp that took place at the homestead "Gribžė" located in the village of Kvietiniai in Klaipeda district.
We are delighted the 26 participants from Ukraine, that currently are facing the horrors of war, were safely and successfully brought to the Camp. Their trip was sponsored by the Rotary Clubs from Poland (Rotary Club Warszawa Goethe) and Ukraine (Lviv International Rotary Club). 4 campers sponsored by Tallinn Global Rotary Club have arrived from Estonia. Another 4 campers came from Poland, with the help of Rotary Club Warszawa Goethe. The rest of the campers gathered from Lithuania.
“The Miracle of Cognition” camp’s opening ceremony took place on Sunday, 26th of June and traditionally the beginning of the camp and summer holiday was solemnly announced by the Klaipėda Vyturys high-school schoolchildren`s drummer orchestra.
Right after the raising of the camp flag all campers were invited to a concert, where children from each country introduced themselves to the audience by performing a specially prepared program. Band of the evening "Aštuntas kambarys".
Throughout the week, there was no shortage of activities for both the soul and the body: educational activities for children were conducted by the Klaipeda branch of the Lithuanian Blind Library, the Museum of Minor Lithuania, the actors of the Klaipeda Drama Theater. Clown Bomas captured everyone`s hearts with his sincere performance and magical music. Talks "From heart to heart" with priest Mindaugas Žilinskas. Music and art classes, a scientific experiment laboratory, and creative workshops were arranged by the staff from Klaipeda Eyesight Developmental Center, where children were busy drawing, making postcards, book tabs, weaving friendship bracelets, creating tactile paintings, and playing brain-training games.
Physical activities weren’t left aside too: morning exercises, football, table tennis, and outdoor games some of which were prepared by Klaipeda branch of the Lithuanian Blind and Visually Impaired Union. Furthermore, hip-hop dance lessons, and treasure hunts. Campers’ attention was also drawn by the weightlifting athletes from Klaipeda City Weightlifting Sports Club.
Children were busy enjoying various entertaining activities every single day, and those were rides of shiny and noisy horses with the bikers from club "Ežiukai", introduction to the culture and traditions of different Lithuanian regions. Dances, songs, and unique experience was delivered by the community`s "Rodyna" and "Banguolis" artists, as well as "Alkiukai" children`s and youth ensemble. Disco dance and singing evenings were part of the desirable routine.
All sponsors, campers and guests have been invited to the final concert, where each and every one had the opportunity to reveal their abilities in a traditional, but always genuinely surprising, exciting and pleasing talent show. Disco band "Šoumenai" created real fun at the end of the whole event.
"The Miracle of Cognition 2022" Camp has been solemnly closed on Friday the 1st of July. We said bye to each other up until same time next year – all those who participated in the camp, all those who organized it, and those who had the opportunity to visit it at least for a short time.
